Happy New Year everyone!
I’ve just come back from a mini one night break to Hastings, so enjoy these minimal themed photos while I challenge you to a de-clutter off!
In addition to one or two New Year’s Resolutions, I have started The 30 Day Minimalist Challenge, a challenge created by two guys who call themselves The Minimalists.
The idea of the challenge is that every day for 30 days you progressively clear out/ recycle/ donate/ ebay more and more things from your home. One item goes on day one, two items on day two, three items on day three and so on. Individual items can count when it gets tricky, so if you get rid of a set of 6 glasses – that can count as 6 items. If you keep it up, by the end of 30 days you will have got rid of a remarkable 465 things. This is a small drop in the ocean as apparently the average (American) household contains over 300, 000 things!
Living minimally seems like a particularly good idea in the UK, where we have the smallest average house sizes in the developed world at just 76m2 (818 sf) compared to USA’s 214 m2 (2300 sf). Our little terrace is just slightly above this average at 100m2, so space is still precious.
I don’t consider myself a hoarder, but I’m sure there are a few things lurking around that can be cleared out. I will let you know how I get on… Is anyone up for joining me?
